The perceived reason for success or failure
4 Areas of causal Attribution
INTERNAL EXTERNAL

- Ability -Task difficulty (STABLE)
- Effort - Luck (UNSTABLE)
Locus of Control
Personal control
-Areas which the performer can take control. e.g. commitment to training, effort & concentration
External control
-Ares where the individual has little control over. e,g. tactics, referee & quality of the opposition
Use of self serving-bias & attributions
Why is it used
- Success = internal factors (performer gains satisfaction)
- Failure = External or Unstable factors (protect their self-esteem)
-To avoid learn helplessness (where failure is inevitable)
