Q

How can you turn a magnetic field on and off? How do you increase the strength of the magnetic field?

A

By allowing electric current to flow in a material produces magnetic field around it.

Increase electric current to make the magnetic field stronger.

Q

What happens when electric current flows through a flat circular coil and draw it.

A

Magnetic field in Center of flat circular coil is similar to a bar magnet.

There are ellipses of magnetic field lines around the coil.

Q

Describe the structure of electromagnet.

A

Electromagnet is a solenoid carrying electric current.

Magnetic field inside current carrying solenoid is strong and uniform.

Outside coil, field is just like in bar magnets.

Ends of solenoid act like North Pole South Pole of bar magnet.

Q

What are soft and hard magnetic materials?

A

A magnetic material is soft if it loses its induced magnetism quickly.

A magnetic material is considered hard if it keeps its induced magnetism permanently.
