Section 6 - Magnets And Magnetic Fields Flashcards
What is a magnetic field?
A region where magnetic materials experience a force.
What are magnetic field lines use for and where do they point?
They are used to show the size and direction of magnetic fields.
They always point from north to south.
What happens when you place two permanent bar magnets north and south poles together?
Draw it out.
Creates uniform field between the two magnets.
What do you use to look at magnetic field patterns? Why do you use them?
Compasses and iron filings. They Align themselves with magnetic fields.
Place magnet under piece of paper. Scatter iron filings. Shows magnetic fields.
Use multiple compasses to see magnetic fields.
What do like poles do and unlike poles do?
Draw them.
Like poles repel
Unlike poles attract
What do magnets effect?
Magnetic material and other magnets.
What happens to a magnetic material when close to magnet.
It becomes magnetically induced.
If the object is far there is little induced magnetism.
If it is close to the magnet it is close the magnetic material becomes magnetism induces.
What does it mean when a magnet becomes induced?
The magnetic material has becomes magnetic and becomes like bar magnet with north and south poles.
