What items must be set for the airport / runway symbols to appear in the HUD?

Answer 1

1. Touchdown zone elevation (TDZE) in the HUD menu
2. Vertical angle set and boxed in the HUD menu
3. ILS frequency tuned and received on the MCDU tuning page
4. Glide slope off the top of the scale
5. Aircraft within 2000 feet of TDZE
6. HUD must be in the NORMAL display mode, not CLEAR mode

When does the runway symbol replace the airport symbol?

Answer 2

At 350 feet radar altitude, the runway symbol joins the airport symbol, and at 325 feet radar altitude the airport symbol disappears

Question 3

When does the flare cue appear?

Answer 3

At 100 feet radar altitude. At 50 feet RA, the flare cue surrounds the flight path vector

Question 4

Can the HUD be used to fly LDA approaches?

Answer 4

Yes, but the airport/runway symbol will not align with the actual runway

What is the function of the EVS key on the display controller HUD menu?

Answer 5

Toggles the EVS system ON and OFF, displaying the EVS symbols and video on the HUD. It also turns on the FUR camera

What is the function of the FLIR key on the display controller HUD menu?

Answer 6

Toggles only the FUR camera ON and OFF

Question 7

What is the function of the NUC key on the display controller HUD menu?

Answer 7

The NUC key (Non-Uniformity Correction) toggles the NUC between ON and OFF, and when selected it places a uniform heat source in front of the FUR sensor so the processor can equalize sensor output by individual pixel

When is a NUC performed automatically?

When the EVS camera is on and flaps are selected to 10°

How long does the NUC last?

A NUC correction will last for 2 hours and 30 minutes

Can the EVS see through clouds or sequential strobe lights?

Answer 10

No, clouds are too thick and the refresh rate of the camera will not see strobe lights
