Section 10 - Ice and Rain Protection Flashcards
What condition would cause a “L-R PITOT HT FAIL” message to be displayed on the CAS?
Pitot heat failed or switch selected to OFF
How are the total air temperature (TAT) probes properly checked prior to flight?
Check for proper aspirated airflow at the aft end of the probe after APU air ON
When must the cowl anti-ice system be turned on for taxi and takeoff?
When the temperature is less than + 10°C and visible moisture is present
If engine vibration increases while flying in icing conditions, what is the corrective action?
Decrease engine power to idle for 5 seconds, then accelerate the engine above 85% LP RPM
When should continuous airstart ignition be selected ON? Contaminated runway, heavy rain
What would occur if both wing anti-ice control switches were turned on, but only one wing anti-ice control valve opened? Both wings would still be heated via the single operating control valve, through a cross-over duct
Where is the bleed air used for cowl anti-ice exhausted overboard?
Inside the cowling in front of the fan
What turns on the TAT probe heat?
When airborne, the pitot heat switch. On the ground, the SAT/TAS ground bypass switch and the pitot heat switch
When is wing anti-ice required?
If icing is encountered or anticipated
What is the maximum windshield wiper operating speed?
200 KCAS
When is the cowl anti-icing system required in flight?
As indicated on the “Temperature Range for Cowl Anti-Icing” graph, when visible moisture or precipitation is present or when signs of icing a re observed
Following holding on the ground during icing conditions, what is recommended prior to takeoff?
When taxiing or holding on the ground at low power in temperatures less than 1 °C, engine operation at 85% LP for one (1) minute is recommended just prior to takeoff and at intervals of not more than sixty (60) minutes under these temperature and moisture conditions. This is dependent on taxiway and/or runway conditions and proximity to other airplanes
