Section 07 - Powerplant Flashcards
What is indicated by a red “FUEL FILTER” CAS message?
The fuel filter is clogging, and engine operation may become erratic
What is the air start envelope (airspeed and altitude)?
200-324 KCAS, 25,000 feet or below
When is the crew required to check engine oil?
5 to 30 minutes after engine shutdown at the termination of the last flight of the day, or at intervals not exceeding 11 hours of cumulative flight time
During a normal engine start, ignition indications will be seen when the pilot completes which action?
Selection of the left or right engine START switch
Gulfstream wants engine vibration levels to be below 0.60 LP, and 0.60 HP under normal operating conditions. What must be accomplished if vibration levels exceed those values?
Engine thrust should be reduced until EVM is below 0.60 LP/HP
In the event a thrust reverser deploys in flight:
The power lever on the respective engine will move to the idle position
What is the minimum bleed air pressure indication prior to an engine start?
25 psi minimum·
What is an important consideration when performing an engine start with a tailwind component?
Allow engine to achieve max cranking HP RPM, and verify that positive LP RPM is achieved prior to selecting the HP fuel cock to OPEN
Will an engine start if the power lever is not at idle?
Yes, and the engine will accelerate to the thrust setting selected by the power lever
If peak EVM values exceed the alert level during engine start, what action must be performed?
Normally no action is required
When should the “SVO” and “IGN” indications extinguish after start?
At approximately 44.5% HP RPM
After starting both engines, you discover that the right pack is OFF and the isolation valve is OPEN. What is the most likely cause?
The START MASTER switch is still ON because you haven’t performed the After Starting Engines Checklist
What would you expect to see when conducting the Engine Vibration Monitor Test {EVM)?
Amber EVM indications at 2.0 plus or minus 0.2
What is the only method of engine airstart?
Windmilling airstarts
If an HP fuel cock is stuck in the OPEN position and will not move, what is the likely cause of the problem?
An LP shaft failure has occurred
Why is the engine fuel temperature checked on the taxi/before takeoff checklist?
To ensure that the engine oil temperature and the engine fuel temperature values are similar
What is the purpose of the engine over-fueling solenoid?
To aid in engine acceleration during high bleed-air demand conditions
What 3 indications are necessary prior to opening the HP fuel cock during a normal engine ground start?
- 15% HP RPM
2. Positive LP RPM 3. Ignition
When checking the engine oil sight glass, what precaution should be observed?
Ensure that you are reading the markings on the side of the gauge that correspond to the engine in question
What is the minimum altitude for autothrottle engagement?
50 feet AGL on approach
What are the conditions that must be met in order to engage the autothrottles?
- An EPR limit must be selected
- LP RPM split less than 20%
- HP RPM greater than 41 %
- SAT warmer than -80°C
- Autothrottle button on the FGP must be armed
- A valid speed target must be displayed
- Isolation valve must be closed
- Flight director must be in the takeoff mode (ground only) EPR must be greater than 1.17 (ground only)
When is autothrottle operation not permitted?
During takeoff or go-around with wing anti-ice selected ON
Will the autothrottles engage during takeoff or go-around with the wing anti-ice selected ON?
Yes
Where can you find information regarding approved fuel grades and additives?
In the AFM, Section 1 (Limitations) or the QRH, Supplemental Data
