Q

Describe a moment of humour that Larbi creates and give the interpretation

A

-Larbi runs and jumps into his metal box DSR knocking it from vertical to horizontal. This creates humour as it is not the same as the monks dangerous jumping off of their boxes.
-this reminds the audience that Larbi is a foreigner and from a western culture so is still learning from the monks. However he still manages to knock the box down showing his integration with them

Q

Describe how the monks and Larbi move their boxes into the next formation, and what the aural setting is

A

-the monks drag their boxes around the stage in an anti clockwise circular formation, holding 2 boxes, to create a horizontal row of boxes upstage with the openings facing up
-this creates the impression of the monks all working hard in a job in the city, and the never ending cycle of work, or them dragging their heavy bags
-Larbi repeats sections of section 9 solo, as he tries to walk but one of his feet gets stuck inside the box like before, and he struggles to get it out
-aural setting changes to a soft legato string piece
