What is an artefact?
Things made by people long ago e.g. Stone Age tools
What is the job of a historian?
To find out about the past using written sources.
What is a source?
Something that gives an archaeologist or historian information about the past.
What is a primary source?
A source that comes from the time being studied e.g. Artefacts
What is a secondary source?
A source made by historians or archeologists after studying a primary source e.g. A history textbook
What is bias?
When writers slant their story to present themselves on a good light.
What is prejudice?
When a writer pre judges something and only presents their own point of view.
What is propaganda?
When a writer tries to bring the reader over to their point of view. Propaganda was used in german to gain political support before WWII.
Where do archeological digs take place?
Near old buildings, where aerial photographs show signs of old fields and places where old stories are connected to.
Where are artefacts stored?
In a museum.
What can archeologists learn from post holes?
The size and shape of a house.
What are the three ways of dating an artefact?
Stratigraphy-Measuring its depth in the ground.
Carbon dating-Measuring the amount of carbon 14 in the artefact.
Dendrochronology-Used to date timber.
What is the job of an archaeologist?
To find out about the past using artefacts.
