The river seine runs through Paris and the city has an inland port with access to the Atlantic ocean through the port of la havre
Raw materials and finished goods can be imported/ exported through the port of Paris, encouraging industrial development
The French high speed rail network(TGV) has its centre in Paris so buisness people can reach the rest of France and Europe easily. This has attracted businesses ie. Lancome
Because this is a low lying productive farming region there are plenty of raw materials such as wine, milk and wheat for the food processing industry

Thd Paris Basin region has a population of over 22 million people
They provide an educated labour force
The Paris Basin is an attractive location for industry as the region now contains 25% of the French workforce
Of this 6.5 million 44% work in manufacturing
There is a wide variety of industry found in Paris because of its large, educated and wealthy population
Heavy industry such as steel and oil refine are located close to the river seine on the canal St Denis
Lighter industry’s are located in the newer suburbs such as marne-la-Vallee
Car manufacturers such as Renault and Citroën are also located in the suburbs
Paris is world famous for its fashion and the fashion industry relies on a wealthy population with more disposable income
Many industrial units are found in the city centre which manufacturer luxury clothing (channel) and jewellery(cartier)
