Culture describes how people live their lives
The Gaeltacht is a group of Irish speaking communities in the south west and west of Ireland
Donegal is the largest Gaeltacht and dingle is the largest Gaeltacht town
Approximately 60% of people living In the Gaeltacht speak Irish on a daily basis
A Gaeltacht region Is mainly defined by its language but other cultural activities are associated with the Irish language including Sean nod singing, set dancing
The Irish language defines social and economic development of the Gaeltacht region
The department of arts, heritage, Gaeltacht and the islands promote the cultural, social and economic wealth of the Gaeltacht region
In 2011 it provided 6 million in government funding to develop the Gaeltacht economy
Money spent by urdas na Gaeltacht which created just over 700 jobs in 2010
Irish language recognised as a source of income. Government provides financial support through series of grants
Grants are paid for cultural events where the Irish language plays a central role
Number of Irish speakers is decreasing which is a threat to the survival of the Gaeltacht
There are several reasons for this - harsh physical and remote landscape with low economic development leads to out migration
