What is sebhorreic dermatitis?
A
A chronic dermatitis caused by an inflammatory reaction related to proliferation of a normal skin fungus called Malassezia furfur

How does SD present?
A
- Eczematous lesions on the sebum rich-areas e.g scalp, around eyes, eyes and nose

What conditions is SD associated with?
A
- HIV
- Parkinsons

How is SD managed?
A
Scalp
- 2% ketoconazole shampoo
- Selenium sulphide and topical steroids can be used
Face and body
- Topical antifunagls e.g ketoconazole
- Topical steroids for short periods
- Difficult to treat

What are common complications of seborrheic dermatitis?
A
- Otitis externa
- Blepharitis
