What is a BCC?
A
One of the 3 main types of skin cancer, it is the most common cancer in the western world

What are the risk factors for a BCC?
A
- UV/X-ray exposure
- Sun exposure
- Arsenic exposure

How does BCC present?
A
- Usually in sun exposed places e.g. face and neck
- Initially a pearly, flesh coloured papule with tiny vessels
- Later may ulcerate leaving a central crater
- Can also be a small crusty lesions or be a scab which does not heal

How is BCC managed?
A
- Routine referral if suspected BCC
- Consider cancer pathway if looks more suspicious or is site/size are concerning
- Can be removed surgically/cryotherapy/curettage
- Topical cream e.g. imiquimod, fluorouracil can be used
- Radiotherapy
