A

One of the 3 main types of skin cancer, it is the most common cancer in the western world

What are the risk factors for a BCC?

A
  • UV/X-ray exposure
  • Sun exposure
  • Arsenic exposure

How does BCC present?

A
  • Usually in sun exposed places e.g. face and neck
  • Initially a pearly, flesh coloured papule with tiny vessels
  • Later may ulcerate leaving a central crater
  • Can also be a small crusty lesions or be a scab which does not heal

How is BCC managed?

A
  • Routine referral if suspected BCC
  • Consider cancer pathway if looks more suspicious or is site/size are concerning
  • Can be removed surgically/cryotherapy/curettage
  • Topical cream e.g. imiquimod, fluorouracil can be used
  • Radiotherapy
