Goal 3.
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
By 2030
global maternal mortality ratio to
less than
70 per 100,000 live births
BY 2030 global Under-5 mortality rate
as low as 25 per
1,000 live births
by 2030 global Neonatal mortality rate
as low as 12 per 1,000
live births
The maternal mortality ratio (MMR)
the annual number of maternal deaths from any cause related to or aggravated by pregnancy or its management (excluding accidental or incidental causes) during pregnancy and childbirth or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, per 100,000 live births, for a specified year.
maternal mortality rate
number of maternal deaths divided by person-years lived by women of reproductive age
under-five mortality rate (U5MR)
rate per 1,000 live births of a child born in a specified year or period dying before reaching the age of five if subject to current age-specific mortality rates.
The neonatal mortality rate (NMR)
the probability that a child born in a specific year or period will die during the first 28 completed days of life if subject to current age-specific mortality rates, expressed per 1000 live births.
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
a virus that weakens the immune system, ultimately leading to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
The tuberculosis incidence per 100,000 population
defined as the estimated number of new and relapse tuberculosis (TB) cases (all forms of TB, including cases in people living with HIV) arising in a given year, expressed as a rate per 100, 000 population.
Tuberculosis
an infectious bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which most commonly affects the lungs. It is transmitted from person to person via droplets from the throat and lungs of people with the active respiratory disease.
A tuberculosis case
defined as a patient in whom tuberculosis has been bacteriologically confirmed or diagnosed by a clinician.
