Scientific Process Flashcards
Leaning ideas
Hypotheses
Hypothesis a possible explanation for what has been observed. Might be wrong or right
Predictions
Scientists use hypothesis to make predictions.
Testing Hypotheses
Other scientists will make predictions to test the hypothesis. They will also try to reproduce the experiment.
Theories
Accepted hypotheses are referred to as theories.
Data
Data from small sample size, is not as effective as data from big sample sizes. Plus the small sample size should have as many of the variations as possible
Valid
Valid data means that the data needs to answer the original question
Scientific developments
These can have an effect on Economic issues Social issues Environmental issues Ethical issues
Data sets
Should be spread out not close to the mean.
Types of errors
Random errors and systematic errors, systematic is the same errero made every time.
Anomalous
When a result doesn’t fit in with the rest of the results.
How do you get good quality results
Experiments must be repeatable, reproducible, accurate and precise.
Errors
Errors can be random and or systematic errors, these are errors that occur on every time.
If an error occurs because your equipment is not Zeroed properly.
This is called zero error.
