16
Q

Define Basal metabolic rate

A

The minimum amount of energy required by the body in a day

17
Q

Proteins are made of?

A

Amino acids

18
Q

In what order does the body prefer to burn the macronutrients?

A

Carbohydrates, fat, protein.

19
Q

When proteins are eaten, they are broken down into their amino acids. If your cells are short on amino acids, what happens to the amino acids that come from the proteins you eat? What happens if your cells have plenty of amino acids?

A

If your cells do not have enough amino acids, the amino acids, the amino acids from the proteins you eat are sent to your cells so that our cells can make the proteins they need if your cells have plenty of amino acids, the amino acids from the proteins you eat are either burned for energy or converted into carbohydrates or fats

20
Q

Why is it important to eat either animal protein or a wide variety of plant protein?

A

There are several amino acids our bodies can’t make, there for we must get them from food

21
Q

Which type of animal has a higher BMR and endothermic animal or an ectothermic animal?

A

endothermic

22
Q

Which type of animal cannot be active on a very cold day: an endothermic animal or an ectothermic animal?

A

Ectothermic

23
Q

What do calories measure?

A

energy

24
Q

Consider two men, while they sleep they burn about the same number of calories, however, the first man needs significantly more calories than the second in order to keep his weight constant, which man is more active?

A

The first man

25
Q

Jean and wanda are essentially the same height, weight, and age. If jean needs to eat more calories than wanda in order to keep her wait constant, can you immediately conclude that jean is more active than wanda?

A

No,

26
Q

When normalized by weight, which has a higher BMR: a horse or a mouse?

A

mouse

27
Q

Where does the combustion of food take place?

A

cell

28
Q

Why’s the mitochondrion called the “powerhouse” of the cell?

A

The majority of energy in the combustion process is released in step 3, which takes place in the mitochondrion

29
Q

How many basic steps are involved in the combustion of food? Why do cells do it in such a complex way? Three, for gentle release of energy so that the cell does not burn up from

A

combustion
