-Group of hormones that play an important role in the normal sexual and reproductive development in women
-They are also sex hormones
-The woman’s ovaries make most of these hormones, although the adrenal glands and fat cells also make small amounts of the hormones
Estrogen
-Primary male hormone responsible for regulating sex differentiation, producing male sex characteristics, spermatogenesis, and fertility
Testosterone
-Plays an important role in your menstrual cycle and pregnancy. Creates a healthy uterine lining to support a fertilized egg, embryo and fetus. If the levels of this hormone are too low during pregnancy, it could cause complications such as bleeding or miscarriage
Progesterone
-A hormone created by your pancreas that controls the amount of glucose in your bloodstream at any given moment
-It also helps store glucose in your liver, fat, and muscles
-Finally, it regulates your body’s metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins
Insulin
-Is a hormone that helps you react quickly if you are faced with an exciting, stressful or dangerous situation
-This is known as the ‘fight-or-flight response’
Adrenaline
-Acts on areas of the brain to give you feelings of pleasure, satisfaction and motivation
Also has a role to play in controlling memory, mood, sleep, learning, concentration, movement and other body functions
Dopamine
-Plays a role in the sleep-wake cycle
-Natural levels of melatonin in the blood are highest at night
Melatonin
