A
  • minor medical treatment to be given to the animal by the owner, household member or employee of the owner
  • medical treatment or minor surgery (not entering body cavity) given to an animal used in agriculture by the owner
  • first aid for the purpose of saving a life or relieving pain or suffering (by anyone)
    over the age of 18;
  • castration of a male or the caponizing of an animal
  • docking the tail of a lamb
    -amputation of the dew claws of a dog before its eyes are open

what are the conditions RVNs and SVNs have to follow under schedule 3 in order to be able to deliver medical treatment or minor surgery?

A
  • the animal must be under the care of a vet and the treatment is carried out under their direction
  • the vet is satisfied that the VN is qualified to carry out the treatment
  • for SVNs, the treatment is supervised by a registered vet, vet practitioner or vet nurse and the supervision is direct, continuous and personal
