Salts Flashcards
What is the first solubility rule?
That most nitrate(NO3-) salts are soluble
What is the second solubility rule?
Most salts containing the alkali metal ions (Li+, K+, Cs+, Rb+) and the ammonium ion are soluble
What is the third solubility rule?
Most chloride, bromide and iodide salts are soluble.Exceptions are salts containing the ions Ag+, Pb2+ and Hg2+.
What is the 4th solubility rule?
Most sulfate salts are soluble. Notable exceptions are BaSO4, PbSO4, HgSO4 and CaSO4.
What is the 5th solubility rule?
Most hydroxide salts are insoluble. The important soluble hydroxides are NaOH and KOH. The hydroxides of barium, strontium and calcium are marginally soluble.
What is the 6th solubility rule?
Most sulfide (S2-), carbonate (CO32-) , chromate (CrO42-) and phosphate (PO43-) salts are insoluble
Is zinc chromate soluble or insoluble, and why?
Soluble, most nitrate salts are soluble
Is calcium carbonate soluble or insoluble, and why?
Insoluble, most carbonate salts are insoluble
Is silver iodide soluble or insoluble, and why?
Insoluble, silver is an exception to rule 3
Is ammonium carbonate soluble, or insoluble and why?
Soluble, ammonium ions are soluble
