Describe IED fuzing and firing methods based on bomber design
1 Command Detonated -bomber control IED firing
2 Suicide Device-suicide bomber decides when to initiate the IED or device could be initiated by remote control by another bomber
3 Victim operated-Action of the victim caused the IED to fire. (Opening a box causing IED to detonate)
4 Time device-The IED is fired When the time on the clock expires
5 Combination-Any combination of the above methods

- components are going to vary based on the type of explosive (blast pressure and thermal effects). Most will be damaged, disfigured or pulverized making them harder to recognize. The damage will depend on the components position to the explosive charge, materials used to construct the components and shape of the component.
- Location of post blast evidence can provide clues as to where the component was placed when the device was made.
- May be possible to obtain FP, trace evidence, of the explosives material used to make the IED
6 Recall safety precautions and search procedures associated with IEDs.

IED Inprovised Explosive Device
What type of device has no container or concealment, all componets are visible ( three sticks of dnamite, detonator, clock, wires, and battery visible).
Open Device
An Ied cotained or concealed within a container an componets are not visible
Closed Device
IED contained or concealed in a sft container (IED in a gym bag)
Soft case Device
IEd Contained or concealed in a hard container (IED in a metal or wood box or steel pipe)
Hard Case Device
Enhancement to IED are designed to spread contamination in addition to the normal hazards assocaiated wit IEDs.

IED used to disperse a biological agents or waste. The explosive would be used to disperse contamination at a target. ( ie Pipe bomb with a bag of blood exploded in a airport terminal).
IED with Biological Enhancement
IED used to desperse chemical agents. The explosive would be used to disperse contamination throughout the target. An example would be a bomb with a chemical agent exploded in a bus station.
IED with Chemical Enhancement
IED used to disperse radioactive material over a wide area.an ie woulb e an IED enhanced with radioactive medical waste exploded at the top of a building in NY city or subway.
Radiation Dispersal Device (RDD)
A sophisticated device incorporating radioactive material designed toresult in the formation of nuclear-yield. An IND could be fabricated in an improvised manner or by midifying a stockpile nuclear weapon
