Q

5 Recognize IED componets at a post blast scene.

A
  • components are going to vary based on the type of explosive (blast pressure and thermal effects). Most will be damaged, disfigured or pulverized making them harder to recognize. The damage will depend on the components position to the explosive charge, materials used to construct the components and shape of the component.
  • Location of post blast evidence can provide clues as to where the component was placed when the device was made.
  • May be possible to obtain FP, trace evidence, of the explosives material used to make the IED

25
Q

This can be fabricate by suing common hosehold items.
like
-loop
or clothespin

A

Improvished switches

26
Q

A simple witch that can be used to make a firing switch to initiate an IED
-can be used by using tripwire to bring two loops together or by anchoring one wire loop to the bottom of the IED container and the other to the top, when place in a box goes off when openned, two wire loops willbe brough together making contact, closing the circuit, firing the IED
1- romove about 2” of insulation from one end of each length of wire
2 Make a loop out of each piece of bare wire
3 Threads each wire throug the loop of the other wire so the wires can slide along each other. The loops should contact each other when the two wires are pulled taut

A

Loop Switch

27
Q

a spring type clothespin can be used to make a firing switch to initiate an IED
-can be mdified by adding conductive material to its jaws and attached wires to the conductive material . Eachh jaw with conductive material is kept separted by placing apieceof no conductive material (insulator like wood) attached to a tripwire between the contacts when the tripwire is pulled the insulator will be removed, allowing the jaws to close, completing the circuit.
1 sprip 4 inches of insulation from the ends of two solid copper wires
2 wind one wire tightly on one jaw of the _____ and the oter wire on the other ___
3 Make a hole in one end of the flat piece of wood using a drill. Tie strong string or wire thru the hole
4 P;ace a piece of non conductive matrial between jas of the —- swithch

A

Clothespin Switch

28
Q

A common ___ can be used o make a firing switch for electrically initiated IEDs or as a mechanical striker to initiating a precaussion primer non elecrical fired IED. The mouse trap switch is easily fabricated by completing the following steps

A

Rat/Mouse Trap Switch

29
Q

Attach wire to the conductive material of the mouse trap as illustrated above following the steps below
1 Reove trip lever from device, stapel and holding wire
2 Retract the striker of the device and attach the trip lever across the end of the wood base using the staple with which the holding wire was attached
3 Strip 1” of the instulation from the ends of two connecting wires
4 Wrap one wire tightly around the spring loaded striker of the device
5 Wrap the second wire around some part of the trip level or piece of metal
put plastic or wood between the contancts oncce steps are above

A

Electrically Initiated IED

30
Q

By adding a stiker (sharp object) to the bail of the trap to impinge the prercussion primer (shotgun shell or military booby trap primer) onc e the primer is struk it fires a shotgun shell or shock tube to fire the IED.

A

Non Elictic Mouse trap firing device

A simple pressure sensitive swithch can be used to initiate an IED The ___ is easily fabricated by completing the following stps

A

Pressure Switch

32
