What should the exercise Rx look like for HR?
- Low intensity aerobic training (40-60%)
- Strength training
- Ventilator Muscle Training (IMT-20% of max inspiratory pressure; 3x/day 5-15 minutes)
- Activity pacing and energy conservation (explain in terms of money)
What positions should be used with caution during exercise in patients with heart failure?
Prone and supine positions due to orthopnea
In later stages of HF, post exercise what is patient at risk for?
Hypotension d/t persistent vasodilation after exercises
A patient presents with a demand pacemaker (increase with workload demand) what does the therapist need to ask patient?
What is the upper limit set at and what is the lower limit of the pacemaker
*rarely have an upper HR limit set
What will an automatic implantable carioverter defibrillator due if the upper limit is exceeded?
It will automatically shock heart. Therefore therapist must know the limits of a this pace maker
