Diagnostic tests Flashcards
True or False: Xrays will reveal abnormalities of lung fluids, overal cardiac shape and size (cardiomegaly), aneurysm
True
Which diagnostic tool is used to evaluate ischemic heart disease and myocardial infarction?
Myocardial perfusion imaging
What radioisotope is used during a myocardial perfusion?
Thallium (typically)
Injected into blood via IV; concentrate in normal tissues but not ischemic or infected tissues (cold spots)
Describe what an echocardiogram is used to test?
Noninvasive test that uses US to assess internal structures:
- Size of chambers
- Wall thickness
- EF
- Movement of valves
- Septum
- Abnormal wall movement
Describe cardiac Catheterization
Tiny tube passed from brachial or femora artery thru aorta into blood vessels w/contrast medium into coronary artery
What does cardiac catheterization provide information about?
Anatomy of heart and great vessels, ventricualr and valve funciton, abnormal wall movements
Allows determination of EF
Wher is central line (swan-Ganz Catheter) inserted?
Inserted thru vessels into R side of heart
What do central lines (swan-ganz catheters) measures?
- Central venous pressure (CVP
- Pulmonary artery pressure (PA)
- Pulmonary capillary were pressure (PCWP)
What enzyme is measure to determine if an MI has occurred?
Troponin
Elevation of CK or CPK with concomitant elevation of CK-MB can also be assessed but peaks between 12-24 hours
Elevated troponin levels is a measure of MI and must be accompanied by at least one of the following. List the following.
- Symptoms of ischemia
- New or presumed new ST changes on ECG
- Development of pathological Q waves on ECG
- New loss of viable myocardium and/or new wall motion abnormality on imaging
- Evidence of intracoronary thrombus via catheterization or autopsy
