What was the Kornilov Revolt?
It was an attempt to seize power by the Commander of the army, General Kornilov. It was at a time of severe unrest as many Russian people were upset with the recent June Offensive.
How was Kerensky involved in the Kornilov Revolt?
Kerensky had recently appointed Kornilov as the commander of the army. With Kornilovs help, he wanted to march on Petrograd and restore order by shutting down the Petrograd Soviet.
Why did the KR fail?
Kornilov had decided he wanted a military rule which was seen as a threat to the Provisional Government.
How were the Bolsheviks involved?
Kerensky called upon the Bolsheviks to try to stop Kornilov from entering Petrograd. This allowed Bolsheviks to arm themselves to defend the capital. They were named; “Red Guards”.
Role of the railway workers?
Railway workers blocked Kornilov’s route to Petrograd. This meant he had a lot less ammunition, soldiers and supply.
Significance of the KR for the Bolshevik?
Increased popularity and general influence of the party as they took a lot of responsibility for the victory against Kornilov. Kerensky’s plan had backfired and had now put the Bolshevik’s red guards as the saviours.
Overall significance of the KR?
Soldiers trust in their officers decreased drastically and the Red Guard became more popular to give the Bolsheviks a military advantage. On August 31st, Bolsheviks won more seats in the election.
