Q

What’s the difference between free gas bloat & frothy bloat?

A

Free gas: (usu. 1 animal) result of underlying primary dz

Frothy: primary dz—> inability to breakdown feedstuffs; ruminal gases trapped w/abnormally viscous digest

Q

How do we provide free gas bloat prevention & control?

A

If it’s chronic, a temporary rumenotomy

Need to identify underlying cause…
Rumen fluid evaluation, oesophageal
endoscopy, reticular U/S, exploratory
laparatomy/rumenotomy

Q

How do we provide frothy bloat prevention/control?

A

Grazing management/adaption diets

(top dressing, mineral block, liquid supplement)
