Q

Player A1 shoots two free throws with 13:45 on the game clock in the second half and makes them both. Team B inbounds the ball and is then call for a violation. Before the ball is inbounded by team A, an official discovers that A2 should have shot the free throws and not A1. There is now 13:30 on the game clock. What is the correct ruling?

A

The free throws by A1 are nullified. A2 will shoot the two free throws and the clock will remain at 13:30. Play will resume after the second free throw as it would with any other free throw. 2.12.4 & 2.12.5 pg 40

Q

Player A5 is fouled while dribbling and it is Team B’s 7th team foul. Team A is awarded the ball out of bounds with 8:05 on the game clock in the first half. Team A inbounds the ball and A2 shoots a makes a 3 point shot. Team B inbounds the ball and brings it across half court when the Coach of Team B calls a timeout that goes to media. During the media timeout, the officials discover that A5 should have shot a one and one free throw. There is now 7:55 on the game clock. What is the ruling?

A

Player A5 will shoot a one and one free throw with no players on the line. Team B will then be awarded the ball at the POI where the timeout occurred.

17
Q

Player A1 is fouled while passing to a teammate with 12:45 on the clock in the first half. It is the 7th team foul on Team B but the scoreboard only shows 6 team fouls. Team A is awarded the ball out of bounds. Team A inbounds the ball and is setting up their offense when the Coach of Team A tells the nearest official that they should have received free throws for the last foul. The official stops play with 12:35 on the clock and checks with the table…and confirms that the last foul called was the 7th team foul on Team B. What is the correct ruling?

A

The player that was fouled (A1) will go to the foul line and shoot a one and one bonus. Play will be resumed as any normal free throw when the free throw attempt (s) are completed. The clock will stay at 12:35 and start accordingly. 2.12.5 pg 40

Q

Player A1 is fouled while passing to a teammate with 12:45 on the clock in the first half. It is the 7th team foul on Team B but the scoreboard only shows 6 team fouls. Team A is awarded the ball out of bounds. Team A inbounds the ball and scores a two point basket. Before the ball is inbounded by Team B, the horn sounds and the officials stop play. They discover the last foul called was Team B’s 7th team foul. There is 12:30 on the game clock. What is the correct ruling?

A

Player A1 will shoot one and one free throws. The basket scored does count. Play will be resumed as with any other free throw. 2.12.5.a pg 35

19
Q

Player B2 is fouled by A2 with 7:30 on the game clock in the second half. B2 goes to the free throw line and shoots the first of a one and one bonus. She makes the first free throw. The Coach of Team A then receives a technical foul. B2 shoots another free throw and makes it. It is then brought to the official’s attention that the foul called on A2 was Team A’s 6th team foul. What is the ruling?

A

The first free throw by B2 does not count. IT is necessary for the officials to determine if the second free throw was the second part of the one and one bonus or the first of two Technical foul shots. If it was a technical foul shot, which it should have been, it will count. If it was the second free throw of the one and one bonus, then it will not count. Team B would then be awarded 2 free throws for the Technical foul and would receive the ball out of bounds at the POI closest to where team foul #6 occurred.
