Root Fracture Notes Flashcards
What is the response of a tooth with an open apex to a root fracture?
Hard tissue healing between the ractures segments
Pulp forms initial callous formation while the PDL lays down hard tissue.
What is the final fate of a luxated tooth?
Pulpal necrosis with periapical involvement (hence need to know the symptoms -> after no ttp, becomes ttp with no response to pulp tests)
How does the dental pulp respond to root fractures?
If the dislocation is not great, the ddental pulp can remain between the two fragments.
Dental pulp at apex is not affected by trauma, only the coronal part up to the fracture site.
Pulpal calcification in the coronal portion with some in the apical portion.
What is the healing response of root fractures?
1) Hard tissue formation between the fragments.
2) Fibrous CT laid down at the fracture site.
3) Periodontal ligament forms around apical and coronal segments with bone hard tissues in between.
