Anklosis and Decoronation Flashcards
Why is decoronation carried out?
Preservation of the alveolar width and rebuilding of the vertical bone of the alveolar ridge in growing individuals.
How is decoronation carried out?
Removal of the crown just below the cervical bone margin.
Basically, line with CaOH followed by mucoperiosteal flap. Removal of coronal part of the root to about 1.5mm to 2mm below the alveolar crest. CaOH then removed and canal instrumented to introduce bleeding into canal.
What is the biological explanation for decoronation?
The decoronated root serves as a matrix for new bone development durring resorption of the root.
Lost vertical alveolar bone is rebuilt during the eruption of adjacent teeth.
