What sort of response is involved in sarcoidosis?
A granulotatous response
As with all 3 inter interstitial lung diseases, what is the eventual end stage outcome of sarcoidosis?
Fibrosis or honeycomb lungs
Is sarcoidosis multisystem?
Yes
What is the histopathology of sarcoidosis?
Epitheliod and giant cell granulomas that are non necrotic/non-caseating
What is the acute presentation of sarcoidosis?
Acute arthralgia - pain in a joint
Erythema nodosum - red lumps below surface of skin
How would sarcoidosis usually present?
Asymptomatic
Found incidentally via CxR usually
What will a CxR see if it is sarcoidosis?
Bi-lateral hilar lymphadenopathy
Infiltrates or fibrosis
What are some other signs of sarcoidosis?
Hepatomegaly
Splenomegaly
Lymphadenopathy
What other investigations can be done?
Bloods Urine ECG TB skin test Eye exam Biopsy via broncoscopy or surgery
Treatment for a mild disease with normal lung functions and no organ involvement?
None
Treatment if erythema nodosum or arthralgia is present?
NSAIDs
Treatment if skin lesions, anterior uveitis or coughs are present?
Topical steroids (for a cough? idk)
Treatment if cardiac/neurological/eye disease not responding to topical treatment or hypercalaemia is present?
Systemic steroids
What is anterior uveitis?
Inflammation of centre of eye
