What is a lung abscess?
A
A bacterial infection that occurs in the lung tissue.
The infection causes tissue to die, and pus collects in that space

Bacterial causes?
A
Staph aureus
Pseudomonas
Anaerobes

Symptoms?
A
Non specific
Lethargy
Weight loss
High swinging fever

Investigations?
A
CT thorax
Sputum culture - looking for TB

Q
Treatment?
A
Drain via bronchial tree or per-cutaneously
Prolonged antibiotics
