What are the 2 types of Expectorants?
Guaifenesin (expectorant)
N-acetylcysteine (mucolytic)
Guaifnesin.
Expectorant – Thins respiratory secretions
Does NOT suppress cough reflex
N-acetylcysteine.
Mucolytic – Loosen mucous plugs in CF patients
*Antidote for Acetaminophen OD
What drug is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension?
Bosentan
What is the MOA of Bosentan?
Competitively antagonized Endothelin-1 receptors -> DEcrease pulmonary vascular Resistance
What drug is an antitussive?
Dextromethorphan
What is the MOA of Dextromethorphan?
Antagonizes NMDA glutamate receptors
*Synthetic codeine analog – mild opioid effect when used in excess
What is give for a Dextromethrophan OD?
Naloxone
Pseudoephedrine, Phenylephrine.

- CNS stimulation/Anxiety (pseudoephedrine)
