Respiratory system A&P TEAS Flashcards
What is included in the structure of the respiratory system?
The respiratory system consists of the nose, nostrils, mouth, throat, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, and lungs
What is the respiratory system responsible for?
taking in oxygen from the environment and releasing it as carbon dioxide, a byproduct of our metabolism and maintaing Ph.
what is the process of steps in the respiratory system
- starts in the nose (would go through nostrils) or mouth and travels to
- The throat
- Larynx
- Trachea
5.into Bronchi - bronchioles
- leading to the alveoli and lungs
How many sections is the left lung divided into?
2, because your heart sits there
How many sections is your right lung divided into?
3
what is the function of the respiratory system?
Taking in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide
What happens when you inhale or breath in?
Your diaphragm contracts/ moves downwards. increasing the volume within the thoracic cavity and decreasing the pressure inside of it. Then oxygen is pulled in.
when you breath in, how does oxygen transport into the blood?
From the alveoli. As a result, air travels into the lungs.
What happens when you exhale?
Your diaphragm relaxes and moves back upward. This decreases the volume in the thoracic cavity and increases the pressure inside of it. Carbon dioxide is released from the alveoli into the lungs aka ventilation. As a result the air flows out of the lungs.
How does the respiratory system maintain Ph of blood?
When the blood becomes to acidic the respiratory system blows off carbon dioxide(considered an acidic gas) in order to remove the excess acid.
What are some factors that can effect the respiratory system?
- Diseases: asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia
- Cigarettes.
- Pollution and Dust
- Allergies & Inflammation
