Muscular System Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
What the three types of muscle tissues?
- Skeletal Muscle
- Cardiac Muscle
- Smooth Muscle
Skeletal Muscle:
Attached to bones and responsible for movement
What is the only voluntary tissue in the body?
Skeletal Muscle
Cardiac Muscle
Found in the heart and pumps blood throughout the body.
Smooth Muscle:
Found in organ and Vessel wall such as stomach, intestines, and blood vessels.
Involuntary, weakest of all muscle tissue
What is the function of muscle tissues?
Responsible for movement of the body
How many named muscles are in the body?
Over 700
How much of our body weight do our muscles take up?
About half
How do nerves control muscles?
Nerves control muscle by sending electrical impulses to the muscle, causing the muscles to contract and generate force
Where does the nerve impulse start?
The nerve impulse originates in the brain through the spinal cord into the muscle: brain > spinal cord > axon > muscle nerve > muscle fiber
