Personnel Responsibilities of the CO
Appoint Respiratory Protection Manager in writing
Respiratory Protection Program Manager (RPPM)
Complete required training with 3 months of assuming position
Dept. Heads/DIVO
Provide PPE
MDR
-Conduct pre-placement evals an periodic evals
- Medically certify qualified members
- Assist RPPM in identifying, evaluating hazards and selecting correct respirators
Requirements for Respirator Use
- People confirmed by the MDR as not having deployment limiting conditions and up to date on their PHA.
- Shipboard members doing shore fire fighting are not required to obtain medical qualification for fitting of SCBA and OBA
- If medical determination cannot be reached you will certify through the Medical Matrix, Respirator User Certification Exam 716
Respiratory Program Terms
Aerosol
- Any material dispensed from a pressurized container using a gas propellant
Dust
- Small solid particles created by breaking up larger particles by processes like crushing, grinding or expulsion
Oxygen Deficient Atmosphere
- Must be 19.5% by volume to use in an air-purifying respirator
Atmosphere Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH)
- Concentration of contaminant can cause permanent irreversible effects on health, or can cause death
