Respiration Flashcards
What are the two types of respiration called?
Aerobic and anaerobic respiration.
What is respiration?
The process of releasing energy from glucose, which happens constantly in every living cell.
When does aerobic respiration occur?
When there’s plenty of oxygen.
Which type of respiration is used most of the time?
Aerobic
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
Glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water
When do we use anaerobic respiration?
When you’ve done lots if exercise and your body can’t supply enough oxygen to your muscles.
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration in animals?
Glucose - lactic acid (+energy)
How is anaerobic respiration different in plants?
Plants can respire without oxygen and produce ethanol and co2 instead of lactic acid.
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration?
Glucose = ethanol + carbon dioxide
