Increased WBC, purulent secretions, Temp > 38, New & persistent infiltrate/ opacity

Washing, semi recumbant positioning,

Smoking cessation, Pneumococcal vaccine, influenza vaccine
SARS- Epi
Atypical pneumonia cause by virus. Visit to endemic areas-> Asia
Sars-SX
persistant fever, chills, SOB, rhonchi, rales
SARS- Dx
serology or PCR- leukopenia, and low-grade intravascular coagulation
SARS- Tx
Supportive therapy
Hantavirus- Epi
Hemorrhagic fever assoc. with rodent feces. Endemic to N & S America, europe
Hantavirus- Sx
Vascular leakage- primarily in lungs, pulmonary edema, GI manifestations
Hantavirus- Dx
Hemoconcentration, HPS immunoblasts
Hantavirus- Tx
Supportive therapy, isolation & ribavirin
Cocc..mycosis- Epi
Obsure illness from mold in SW US, mexico, S. america
Cocc..mycosis- Sx
Respiratory manifestations, arthalgias and swelling
Cocc..mycosis- Dx
Serology, leuocytosis & eosinophilia
Cocc..mycosis- Tx
Symptomatic therapy- azoles if spreads to meninigies or causing serious complications
