Bunch of BS Flashcards
T- cell deficiency causes
AIDS, Solid organ transplant, steroids, idiopathic leukopneia
AIDS- Pathogen
Herpes viruses- HSV, CMV, VZV
Steroids- pathogens
Listeria, myco. Tb
Idiopathic leukopenia
fungal infections
B- Cell deficiencies
Common immunodeficiency, agammaglobuliermina, Secondary lymphocytic leukemia
Common ID- pathogens
enterovirus
Agammaglobulieremia- pathogens
Strept. pneumo, H.flu, N.menigitis, Myco. pneumonia
Secondary lymphocytic leukemia- pathogens
parasites- giardia
Mixed deficiencies
SCID, Ataxia-telegeictasia
SCID- pathogens
candiasis, respiratory viruses, herpes viruses
Ataxia-telegeictasia- pathogens
sinopulmonary infections
Primary infection
Initial exposure to pathogen or infection in otherwise healthy
Secondary infection
During or after treatment of primary- due to tx of changes in immune system
Opportunistic infection
Infections that happen in immunocompromised- more severe or don’t typically occur in healthy individuals
Congenital pathogen
Acquired in utero, perinatally or postnatally- during birthing process
Endogenous pathogen
Common to site but doesn’t commonly cause infection- infection due to change in host defense
Exogenous pathogen
Pathogen from environment- not commonly found on host
Carrier
Asymptomatic host and can transfer to susceptible individuals or different site on self
Nosocomial
Hospital or healthcare acquired. Often multi abx resistant
Infection
microorganism multiplies at normally sterile site
Colonization
Newly introduced microorg outcompetes normal flora and multiplies
Contamination
Microorg. present at normally sterile site
