decongestants, saline lavage
Chronic Sinusitis- Eti
sinusitis > 12 weeks- typically bacterial or fungal in nature
Chronic Sinusitis- Tx & Dx
culture specimen and guide abx to specific organism
Rhinocerebral Mucomycosis- Eti
fungal infection, highly invasive and progressive. Most common in DM or pts with suppressed phagocyte function
Rhinocerebral Mucomycosis- Sx
facial/ eye pain, numbness, soft tissue swelling, blurry vision, conjunctival suffusion
Rhinocerebral Mucomycosis- Dx
Needle aspirate from typically sterile part of body
Rhinocerebral Mucomycosis- Tx
4 steps- ID early, resolve underlying risk if possible, surgical debridement, prompt anti fungal tx- amphotericin

Nasal colonization of S aureus- break in mucosal membrane

Inflammation of nasal vestibule, often asymptomatic

systemic & topical abx
Nasal foreign body
unilateral, foul smelling discharge, rhinorrhea or bleeding. Common in children- remove body through positive pressure or forceps
