What is included in the introduction?
- Checks patients name and states role
- Obtains consent for examination
- Washes hands
What is needed in position and exposure?
- Couch at 45 degree angle

What is in general inspection?
- Inspection from end of bed look for (2)
2. Resp rate
What do you look for in general inspection?
- Accessory muscle usage, pursed lip breathing
- Obvious chest wall deformities
- Scars on the chest wall or lower limbs (vein harvesting)
- Medical paraphernalia around the bed, Cigarettes
What do you look for in hands and arms?
- inspection of hands (mention 2)
- Mention or assess for CO2 Retention Flap (need to do for 30 seconds to say not present)
- Radial Pulse: is it bounding?
What 2 things need to be mentioned in inspection of hands?
- Peripheral Cyanosis
- Tar staining
- resting fine tremor
- clubbing
- small muscle wasting
- capillary Refill
What do you look for in face?
- Inspect eyes
2. Inspect mouth
What do you look for in the eyes?
- Horner’s Syndrome (ptosis, miosis, enopthalmos, red eye)
2. Conjunctival pallor
What do you look for in the mouth?
- central cyanosis
2. hydration status
What do you look for in the neck?
- JVP
2. Assess for tracheal deviation
What must you do with JVP?
demonstrates Hepatojugular Reflex or palpates internal jugular vein
What do you do in chest inspection?
- Closer inspection for scars (including axilla)
2. Pectus Excavatum / Pectus Carinatum
What do you do in chest palpitation?
chest expansion
What do you do in chest percussion?
at least 3 different levels and the axilla
