Resistance + component symbols Flashcards
Symbol for a cell
Lines from both sides one with a smaller line coming off it, one with a larger one
Battery symbol
The cell symbol but with two of the vertical line combinations
Resistor symbol
A rectangle
Fuse symbol
A rectangle with the line continuing through it
Variable resistor symbol
The resistor with a north-east facing arrow through it
Bulb symbol
A symbol with a cross in it
Ammeter symbol
A circle with a capital A in it
Voltmeter symbol
A circle with a capital V in it
Open switch symbol
Two small circles with a line going from one of them diagonally away (connecting if closed)
Diode
A circle with a play symbol with a vertical line at the point
Thermistor
A filled in resistor with a diagonal line coming through with a flat point at the bottom
LDR symbol
A filled in resistor in a circle with two arrows pointing in to it
Length of a wire
Connect a circuit with a voltmeter and an ammeter with crocodile clips 100cm apart on a wire
Record the potential difference and current and divide the potential difference by current to find resistance
Repeat moving the clips 10cm closer each time
Resistors in series vs parallel
Set up a series circuit with two resistors, an ammeter and a voltmeter
Do the same but a parallel circuit
Record the readings
Resistance= potential difference/current
