Component Characteristics Flashcards
Filament lamp/resistor
Set up a circuit with a voltmeter, ammeter, variable resistor and bulb/resistor
Adjust the variable resistor to take readings from the voltmeter and ammeter
Switch the connections and continue
Filament lamp graph
A curve with a positive gradient which is steepest near the origin, which it passes through and curves at the bottom left and right
Resistor graph
A straight line with a positive gradient passing through the origin
Diode
Using the same circuit, add an extra resistor, replace the ammeter with a milliammeter and add a diode instead of a bulb/resistor
Record readings from the milliammeter and voltmeter while adjusting the variable resistor
Swap the connections and continue
Ohms law
Current is directly proportional to potential difference
Diode graph
It is a flat line along y=0 until it suddenly starts increasing in a straight line when the potential difference is a few volts
