Osmosis RP Flashcards
1
Q
What is a hypotonic solution?
A
Where the solution is less concentrated
2
Q
What is a hypertonic solution?
A
Where the solution is more concentrated
3
Q
What way does osmosis happen?
A
Against the concentration gradient
4
Q
What happens to the mass in a hypertonic solution?
A
It decreases
5
Q
Osmosis
A
The movement of water molecules against the concentration gradient through a semi-permeable membrane
6
Q
What does a cell become in a hypertonic solution?
A
Flaccid
7
Q
What does a cell become in a hypotonic solution?
A
Turgid
8
Q
RP
A
- Use a potato corer to make cylinders of potato and cut to equal lengths
- Measure the mass of each
- Add it to 10cm3 different concentrations of solution 1 1mol 1 0.5mol and one pure water
- Leave it overnight
- Work out the percentage change of mass
