Preparing the slide

A
  1. Cut a one cell thick layer of onion
  2. Put it onto a microscope slide with one drop of water on it
  3. Put two drops of iodine on it
  4. Gently put a coverslip on with no air bubbles

Setting up the microscope

A
  1. Put the slide on the stage and clip it on
  2. Use the lowest power lens
  3. Looking on from the side, turn the coarse adjustment lens until it is almost touching the slide
  4. Look into it and turn the same knob the other way until it is focused

  1. Rotate the nosepiece to a higher power objective lens
  2. Look on at 40x until you find some cells
  3. When you have found one, increase the magnification
  4. Measure the image
  5. Do image size/magnification to find the object size
