REQUIRED PRACTICAL - adding hydrochloride acid to sodium hydroxide. Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the shape of the graph/correlation for volume hydrochloride acid in comparison to temperature rise.
A
It increases and then drops. The highest temperature rise is at 25 cm*3 and the rise is 6.8 degrees Celsius.
2
Q
What did nothing happen to the temp to begin with?
A
There are not enough H+ ions to react with the OH- ions.
3
Q
When is heat given out?
A
Every time a H+ ion reacts with an OH- ions.
4
Q
What happens as more acid is added?
A
There are more H+ so more reaction occurs, giving out more heat energy.
5
Q
What happens at the maximum temperature?
A
There are the same amount of H+ ions as OH- ions.
6
Q
Why does the temperature start to decrease?
A
There are no OH- ions for the H+ ions to react with.
