Reproduction Flashcards
Asexual reproduction
All the same genes and characteristics as the one parent.
Divides via mitosis. No fusion of other cells
Results in clones
Where does asexual reproduction occur
Occurs in small animals and plants. Also, in bacteria and fungi
Cells in our body reproduce asexually all the time for growth and repair.
Sexual reproduction
Mixture of genes and characteristics from two parent or gametes
Involves a male and female sex cell.
The 2 sex cells called gametes fuse together to form a zygote, which goes on to form a new individual.
How are gametes formed
They are formed as a result of meiosis
Where does Sexual reproduction happen
Through animal cells, (sperm and egg)
Plants (egg cells and polen)
