Technical code of the two shot
The audience witnesses the dynamic between two people playing basketball in wheelchairs. The main woman in this scene ends up sustaining an injury as she gets knocked over by the other player.
This scene of the wheelchair collision signifies the immense strength of the athletes. But also signifies how she has a lot of adversity to deal with, reinforcing her determination as she continues to be a successful athlete.
Although this scene is empowering and represents her as very strong, it could also be argued that it still marginalises her as in a way it defines her by her struggles and what she had to overcome, this puts a lot of emphasis on it which contrasted the idea of humanising disabled people as she is still represented as ‘super’
Low angle long shot of the montage of joints being taped, strapped and pushed into prosthetics & hyperbolic sounds of grunting
Emphasises the preparation and physical routine that athletes experience everyday.
There is quite clearly a focus on the struggle as the advert suggests a real battle and physical determination and so feels quite gritty and ‘real’ rather than a glamorous, idyllic lifestyle.
