renal disease Flashcards
What equation is used to calculate GFR
CKD-epi. Cockroft-gault formula.
what is normal GFR? What is chronic kidney disease GFR?
120-130 is normal. creatine.
60ml/min or lower is CKD.
what is AKI
acute kidney failure that results in hours to days that causes increase creatine, decrease GFR. and acid base homeostasis.
Types of renal failure
Prerenal (will result in decrease in GFR) has BUN 20:1
intrarental
post rental -obstruction of urinary track 10:1 BUN
signs of acute renal failure?
dehydration,. tachycardia, pulmonary edema. rash, third heart sound.
What are common managements of Acute renal failure.?
Maintain hydration. avoid nsaids, Avoid contrast. elimination nephrotoxins.
what is CKD?
Chronic kidney disease is a permanent renal insufficiency that develops over months to years
what is the GFR level of CKD.?
50ml/min
what is the GFR level for ESRD?
<15 ml/min
stages of chronic kidney disease?
has 5 stages. >90,60,30,15-30,<15.
What are common complications from CKD?
anemia due to lack of erythropoitein
platelet dysfunction
poor glycemic control(most have DM)
increased risk of infections. (lack of chemotaxis)
secondary hyperparathyroidism from lack of vitamin D
What are safe anesthetic meds for ESRD?
Propofol
Fentanyl
Nitrous oxide.
what are safe abx in ESRD?
first generation cephalosporins? Cefazolin.
You can consult nephrologist and renal dose there medications.
Which paralytic do you want to use in ESRD?
Atracurium
When to do dialysis prior to procedure?
Day before
