one liner medical Flashcards
What is fibromyalgia?
chronic musculoskeletal pain disorder.
what is angina?
Chest pain that occurs due to decreased oxygen to heart
what is acute coronary syndrome
rupture of arthroscletoric plaque with thrombus formation in coronary vessel
what is MI
infarcation of myocardium secondary to hypoperfusion of the coronary system.
what is a met
basil oxygen consumption for a 40 yr old 70kg mg
4-6 is power walking
10+ is sports
what is congestive heart failure
inability of the heart to pump enough blood to meet metabolic demands of the tissue.
type of congestive heart failure
reduced EF (systolic). dialated ventricles with s3 sound with large amount of blood striking a compliant ventricle when mitral opens
S4 atria has to forcible get that last bit of blood
diastolic failure
stiff and uncompliant ventricles has s4 sounds
cardiomyopathy
disease process that affects the ability of the heart to function/
what is afib
disordered electrical impulses and fibrilatory rhythm of the atrium causing irregular irregular rhythm
what is the risk stratification for thrombus formation in afib
chads-vasc
what is asthma
reactive respritory disease that is characterized by inflammation and hyperresponsive and has an obstructive pattern
what is COPD
irreversible obstructive respiratory pattern characterized by either bronchitis or emphysema
what is pulmonary embolism
complete or partial blockage of pulmonary vessels leading to v/q mismatch
what is multiple myeloma
malignancy of plasma cells that results in overaccumulation of monoclonal immunoglobulin
what is sickle cell disease
AR disorder that has point mutation of valine for glutamic acid that results in sickling and hemolysis.
what is AKI
sudden and reversible reduction in kidney function
chronic renal disease
permanent renal insufficiency that occurs over time that results in decrease in renal function.
prerenal
Bun and creatine are high due to decrease in blood flow to creatine. >20/1
renal or post renal failure
<20/1 is intrinsic renal failure
what is diabetes
metabolic disorder that results in hyperglycemia that can be type 1 or type 2.
what are the steroid stress dose
<10mg equivalent of predisone a day do nothing just take meds
>20mg a day of predisone
minor-just take daily dose
moderate-us.. Take hydrocortisone daily 50mg preop, 25 mg q8h for 24 hrs.
major surgery(like open heart).. 100mg hydro before then 50 q8h 24. then 25 mg q8h for 24 hrs
in-between just use stress dose
by doing standard 8mg of decadron and medrol afterwards you are exceeding the recommendations of the stress dose.
common diabetes medications
What is SLE
tissue damage resulting from chronic inflammation due to autoantibodies.
