- Wilms tumor
- renal cell carcinoma

A
- composed of embryogenic tissue/fetal tissue
- mostly in 1 kidney
- 2-5 yr
- associated w/ congenital abn (ex. aniridia)
- associated w/ Chr abn (eg. WT1 on Chr 11)
- single mass that’s palpable

what are the 3 components of a malignancy?
A
stromal, epithelial tissue, and blastoma

what does WT1 code for?
A
factor involved with normal kidney development

staging
A
look at the location, r/t how they can deal with it surgically
stage 1: w/in kidney, NOT affecting the capsule
stage 2: malignancy extends into capsule
stage 3: malignancy extends into the abdomen
stage 4: lung mets

complications
A
HTN and edema d/t fluid retention

diagnosis
A
- CT
- detected after mass is present

treatment
A
- Sx and chemo
- prognosis is good if picked up early -> 95% long-term survival rate
