Chronic Renal Failure Flashcards
1
Q
chronic renal failure
A
progressive, permanent damage
2
Q
stages
A
- determined by GFR, urine volume, and azotemia
1. Diminished Renal Reserve
2. Renal Insufficiency
3. Renal Failure
3
Q
diminished renal reserve
A
- GFR < 50% of normal (normal = 100-120mL/min)
- still adequate for filtration
- no signs of decreased renal fx (kidney has large fx-al reserve)
4
Q
renal insufficiency
A
GFR between 20-50% (inadequate filtration)
5
Q
renal failure
A
- GFR < 20%
- GFR < 5% = end stage; kidney will shut down
