Renal Flashcards
What is micturation?
when urine moves from bladder to urethra
What is path of urine drainage?
papillary duct in renal pyramid > minor calyx > major calyx > renal pelvis > ureter > urinary bladder
4 functions of nephron
- Glomerular filtration
- Tubular reabsorption
- Tubular secretion
- Excretion
3 processes of urine formation
- Glomerular filtration
- Tubular Reabsorption
- Tubular Secretion
What is glomerular filtration rate?
Is the amount of fluid filtered from the blood into the capsule each minute
3 factors effecting the glomerular filtration rate?
- membrane permeability
- surface area
- pressure
Whats the typical GFR?
125 mL/min or 180 L/day
How often is plasma filtered?
about 60x/day requiring that most filtrate be REABSORBED
Name 2 parts the nephron is broken up into
- renal corpuscle
2. renal tubule
What makes up the renal corpuscle?
glomerulus and bowman’s capsule
What makes up the renal tubule?
proximal convoluted tubule, loop of henle, distal convoluted tubule
