Conversion is a turning to God with all one’s heart.

What is Sin?
Sin is the a thought, word, deed or omission against God’s law.
What is MORTAL SIN?
Mortal Sin is something that people commit that is a very SERIOUS SIN that breaks their friendship with God.
What is VENIAL SIN?
Venial Sin is a LESS SERIOUS sin that weakens our friendship with God.
What is Penance and Reconciliation?
Penance and Reconciliation is the SACRAMENT by which our relationship with God and the Church is strengthened and restored and our sins are forgiven.
We all share in the life of Christ, what are we in Christ?
We are the Body of Christ.
What is JUSTICE based on?
Justice is based on the belief that all people are equal.
What does acting with justice respect?
Acting with justice RESPECTS THE RIGHT’S OF OTHERS and gives them what is rightfully theirs.
What can a sin lead to?
Sin can lead to UNJUST SITUATIONS AND CONDITIONS IN SOCIETY.

We work to stop social sin, what is SOCIAL SIN Give examples?
Social sin is the things in society that allow unjust behaviors or conditions to exist.
Ex. prejudice, Poverty, homelessness, crime and violence. 
We prepare for the celebration of sacrament of penance. What is one important way we do this?
One important way is the EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
What is CONSCIENCE?
CONSCIENCE is the ability to know the ability to know good and evil, right and wrong.

CONVERSION

The church has 2 usual ways to celebrate the sacrament of Penance. What are the 2 ways?
**One rite is used when the INDIVIDUAL meets with a priest for the celebration.
**The other rite is used when a GROUP gathers to celebrate the sacrament with one or more priests.
What does gathering a group to celebrate the sacrament of penance show?
It shows that the sacrament is a celebration of the WHOLE church
What is a penitent?
A penitent is SOMEONE seeking God’s forgiveness.
There is a special place where the penitent can meet with the priest for what?
A penitent can meet with the priest for individual CONFESSION and ABSOLUTION
What is an ACT OF CONTRITION?
it is a PRAYER that allows us to express our sorrow.
What is important to know about the forgiveness of sins and confession?
It is important to know that ONLY a PRIEST can hear our confessions and forgive our sins
The priest can never tell anybody what we have confessed. What is this secrecy called?
THE SEAL OF CONFESSION
What does examining our conscience help us with?
EXAMINING OUR CONSCIENCE is a helpful way to DIRECT our lives to God and helps us to STRENGTHEN our relationship with Him.
What happens when we act with MERCY?
OTHERS will SEEK OUT GOD’S mercy.
What does it mean when Jesus “shares his authority to forgive sins with his apostles?”
Jesus forgives ORIGINAL sin in BAPTISM. His apostles Could baptize his followers and can now forgive Sin through baptism.
When is the first time we are forgiven of sin?
When we are baptized we are freed from original sin.
